Vanity Unit made from scaffold boards

Vanity Unit made from scaffold boards

We were commissioned to make a bathroom vanity unit from reclaimed timber. The timber of choice for this project was scaffold boards. Each board was carefully sanded through the various grades so as to make it functional as a piece of furniture, but not too much to loose its reclaimed appearance. Once built the unit is then given 3 coats of an extra tough floor varnish for protection.

Please note - All our boards are reclaimed unlike a lot of companies that purchase new boards and make them look old. If you are wanting a piece that is truly reclaimed and ethical you've come to the right place.

Should you require something similar please do not hesitate to contact us for a quotation.

The products we make are classed as being ‘up-cycled’. Upcycling, also known as creative reuse, is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials, useless, or unwanted products into new materials or products of better quality or for better environmental value.[1]. Regarding the furniture we make, we predominantly use scaffold boards and pallet wood along with other reclaimed timber. Each board is different and, quite often, has nail holes, saw/cut marks, staining/scuffs and natural twists/curves/bowing in the wood, giving each piece its own unique character. There are also variations in the colour of each piece with some being lighter / darker, so please be aware that your product may differ slightly to the images you may have seen on our website. Where possible though, especially when working on a large area like a table top, we try to choose timber than works well together and blends in. We have been doing this for quite some time now and enjoy working with this unique material, even if it does cause us a headache every now and then! If we wanted a simple life we’d work with MDF or chipboard, but that would be boring.

To summarise… if you want a piece of furniture that is both ethical and unique then you have come to the right place. If, however, you are looking for zero tolerance manufacturing with clean cut edges that are perfectly square, then a mass produced factory piece may suit your needs better. That said, we appreciate our furniture not only needs to be aesthetically pleasing but also functional so we always work hard to strike a balance between creating a piece that looks ‘finished’, whilst maintaining the natural characteristics and history of each piece.

We finish all our pieces to a high standard sanding through the grades of paper quite often up to 240grit. If you require a rougher finish we can cater for this also. After sanding there are many options for coating from a wax finish, stain & varnish through to a two part heavy duty lacquer. Please talk to us about the many options.
